We engaged Testament Chambers after my father passed away with both a will and faraid obligations. The advisory process was thorough and, for the first time, someone explained the practical difference between the two in terms we could actually follow. The written memo they provided was invaluable when we later needed to explain the distribution to other family members.

The estate inventory work was handled very carefully. My mother left behind several savings accounts and some unit trust holdings that were not centrally documented anywhere, and the chambers tracked all of them down through correspondence with the relevant institutions. The final schedules gave us a complete picture that I don't think we would have assembled ourselves in under a year.

We used the small estate administration service after my husband's brother passed. The process took longer than I had hoped, but that was due to the authorities rather than the chambers — Testament Chambers kept us informed throughout and was honest with us about the timelines involved. I appreciated that they didn't make promises they couldn't keep.

I came to Testament Chambers not knowing what I needed. My father had passed without a will and the family wasn't sure what to do first. The initial consultation — at no cost — gave me enough clarity to understand the steps ahead. We ended up engaging the chambers for the estate inventory and found the written schedules well worth the investment.

The advisory on faraid and testamentary interaction was exactly what our family needed. My parents had prepared wills some years ago, and we needed to understand how those wills would operate alongside the faraid shares. Nadia walked us through the written advice carefully, and allowed us several weeks to consult with our imam before we made any decisions. This was exactly the right approach.

Straightforward and unhurried. We engaged the chambers for the small estate administration of my grandmother's estate. The process involved the Land Administrator and took several months, but Hafizuddin explained each stage clearly before it happened, and I never had to call to ask what was going on. The written record at the end was a thoughtful touch.

Detailed Accounts

How Engagements Have Unfolded

Case Study

An Estate with Multiple Institutions and No Consolidated Record

The Situation

The family had no central record of the deceased's financial holdings. Six bank accounts across four institutions, a unit trust investment, and an EPF balance that had not been updated. The family did not know where to begin.

How We Worked

We began with the documents available and corresponded with each institution in sequence. Where documentation was missing, we supported the family in obtaining replacements. The process took approximately three months from engagement to completed schedules.

The Outcome

A complete written schedule of all assets and liabilities, reviewed with the family over two sessions. The family used the schedules as the foundation for the subsequent estate distribution, which they managed with separate advisers.

Case Study

A Family Working Through Faraid and a Will Prepared Decades Earlier

The Situation

A Muslim estate in which the deceased had prepared a will twenty years before his death. The will distributed the estate in a way that conflicted with several faraid obligations. The family was uncertain which applied and how to proceed.

How We Worked

We prepared a written advisory memo setting out the interaction between the civil will and faraid requirements. We allowed the family four weeks to consult with their imam and other family members before any next steps were discussed. When the family returned, they had reached a consensus position that the advisory had supported.

The Outcome

The family proceeded with a distribution that reflected both the civil will and the faraid shares in a manner agreed by all beneficiaries. We subsequently assisted with the documentation of that agreement. The engagement was completed without any dispute between family members.

A Small Estate with Land and a Bank Account, and Beneficiaries in Three States

The Situation

An estate comprising a small parcel of land in Selangor and a single bank account. Four beneficiaries, two of whom were resident outside Kuala Lumpur. The family had begun the process with the Land Administrator but had stalled due to incomplete documentation.

How We Worked

We reviewed the existing application, identified the outstanding documentation, and resubmitted with a complete file. We communicated with beneficiaries in different states in writing and attended the hearing on behalf of the family. The total engagement from our instruction to distribution took approximately five months.

The Outcome

Distribution to all four beneficiaries in accordance with the Land Administrator's order. The family received a written record of every step, which one of the beneficiaries later told us was the first time the estate had felt real and resolved to them.
